Doctor’s union says 191 Egyptian doctors died from coronavirus so far

The Egyptian Medical Syndicate announced Sunday that one of its members has died of coronavirus, bringing the total fatalities among Egypt’s doctors to 191 since the outbreak began.

A union statement said that Hassan al-Qamash, a retired pediatrician consultant, died of COVID-19 complications at the Gamal Abdel Nasser Hospital in Alexandria.

Egypt’s Health Ministry on Saturday reported 170 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases up to 107,555.

The ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed announced eight new deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 6,266 nationwide.

And 99 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals on Saturday, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 99,452.

Patients are considered recovered from coronavirus if their symptoms disappear within 10 days of initial onset, according to the World Health Organization’s guidelines.
