Doctors Syndicate: Participation in nationwide strike 50%

Doctors on Monday continued their strike at public hospitals for the third day in a row. They protest the replacement of the medical profession cadre with a package of incentives and allowances.
 
According to the Doctors Syndicate, 50 percent of doctors participated in the strike at 80 percent of public hospitals nationwide.
 
Syndicate Assistant Secretary General Rashwan Shaaban said participation in Kafr El Sheikh was 80 percent, Gharbiya 65 percent, Qalyubia 60 percent, Alexandria 50 percent, Suez 50 percent, Qena 60 percent and both Minya and Fayoum zero percent.
 
He also said the doctors who are staging the strike are being referred to investigation by the hospital administrators.
 
“The strike will continue until the general assembly of 21 February,” he noted.
 
Syndicate Secretary General Ihab al-Tahir said that 18 out of 35 hospitals in Cairo participated in the strike, with 10 hospitals participating 100 percent, including Al-Sahel Hospital, Dar al-Salam, Al-Zawiya Al-Hamra and Shubra, while the Nasser Institute, Nasr City Health Insurance Hospital and Manshiyat al-Bakry did not participate.
