Officials at the Doctors Syndicate have said that on Saturday the police arrested Dr. Abdel Nasser Saqr (Giza branch head), Dr. Ahmed al-Sarwy (syndicate member), and Dr. Hatem Nashar (head of the Fayoum branch and leading Brotherhood figure).
Secretary General Gamal Abdel Salam denounced what he called trumped-up arrests, saying those doctors were performing their duties during the 3 July events.
He said Dr. Effat Mohamed Ali al-Beheiry, a dermatologist, has been detained since the events of Ramses Street on 3 July. He added that the syndicate is commissioning a lawyer to defend all of them.
The syndicate also sent a letter to Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat, asking him to form a medical committee that includes human rights activists and public figures to visit all prisoners but did not receive a reply.
