Differences prevail over Renaissance Dam

Khaled Wasif, spokesperson for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and member of the Egyptian delegation at the trilateral meeting of the ministers of Nile Basin countries in Sudan, on Monday said that there are differences still between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia over the Renaissance Dam.

“We only agreed on some of the goals relating to the formation of the committee for follow-up of social, economic and hydrological studies,” he said. “The rest will be delayed for the next meeting.”

The three countries have been working together to resolve concerns of Ethiopia's construction of the Renaissance Dam on its section of the Nile. Egyptians fear that the construction of the dam could severly impact their share of water from the Nile.
