Prosecutors are investigating the case of a 23-year-old detainee found dead in the Hurghada police station, with cloth coiled around his neck and bruises on his face.
The body was transferred to the Hurghada Hospital morgue.
The Interior Ministry has faced a spike in accusations of prisoner abuse since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy in 2013. Frequent accusations include denying visitation rights and access to medication, torture and, in some extreme cases, death.
