Despite ceasefire ratification, Israeli airstrikes hit Khan Younis amid troop withdrawal

The Israeli occupation army’s reserve Etzioni Brigade began withdrawing from Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday, according to Israel’s Army Radio.

Earlier, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the steps to implement US President Donald Trump’s peace plan included an immediate end to the war upon the Israeli government’s approval.

The office of the Israeli occupation Prime Minister officially announced at dawn today, Friday, that the government had formally ratified Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza and secure the return of the captives held in the Strip.

The Hebrew website Walla also cited sources saying that Israeli forces had begun to withdraw from Gaza City and Shati Refugee Camp towards the agreed-upon line. These forces, the sources noted, would deploy to several control points designed to protect the soldiers.

These sources claimed that occupation forces had fired warning shots this morning after observing “suspicious” movement to prevent soldiers from being targeted, cautioning that the withdrawal route is complex and sensitive, and the army does not want to take risks.

Israeli sources also indicated that the army has started reducing the number of forces participating in military operations in the Strip, adding that the Israeli occupation army had previously pulled out fighting units belonging to the Golani Brigade and other forces from the area.

However, despite Israeli reports about the ceasefire agreement entering into force, Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike on the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip at dawn on Friday. Media reports also stated that occupation forces shelled the Al-Katiba area in central Khan Younis with several artillery shells.
