Demonstrators scuffle with Syrian Embassy staff in Cairo

Scores of Syrians on Thursday staged demonstrations before their embassy in Cairo, demanding the ouster of President Basher al-Assad. They were joined by a few Egyptians.

Embassy staff clashed with the demonstrators and detained an Egyptian inside the embassy. His colleagues called the military police, who came to the site and brought him out by force.

Another Egyptian, Hani al-Mihy, was beaten by the embassy staff and had to be taken to a hospital. His colleagues demanded the departure of the Syrian ambassador for assaulting them.

They also authorized the Hisham Mubarak Law Center to file a lawsuits against the ambassador, his staff, and the Egyptian government for failing to protect them.
