Defense Minister addresses new army doctors

Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi spoke on Friday at an annual conference for recently graduated doctors who are joining the Armed Forces.

"We will never forget the martyrs of the Egyptian soldiers in Rafah …Treachery must be exposed and the Armed Forces will avenge those killed," Sisi told the fresh graduates, adding that a memorial would be built for the victims of the attack.

"No one in the army says a word and then backs down on its implementation; if we promise, we meet our promises,” he assured.

"The advantage any doctor enjoys after joining the Armed Forces is that he will be part of a patriotic and honorable army, loyal to its country and people," Sisi declared.

The Armed Forces will continue assessing its status and listen to criticisms in order to improve, the minister continued.

The conference was organized in Cairo in cooperation with the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom. More than 1,000 young army doctors and Ministry of Health doctors participated in the conference.

Major General Ahmed Abdel Halim, a senior doctor in the Armed Forces, said that preparing doctors to join the army includes helping them immediately after graduation to get a master's degree.
