The death toll in the Al-Jalla University bus accident on Tuesday has now risen to 13, with 33 others left injured.
The Public Prosecution has ordered the referral of the Al-Jalla road bus driver to the competent criminal court.
He is charged with using the narcotic substance morphine, as well as causing death and serious injury by negligence while driving a bus under the influence and in a condition that poses a danger to others.
A statement from the Public Prosecution indicated that this decision was made to ensure swift justice within 48 hours of the incident.
The Public Prosecution urged those in charge of passenger transportation companies and those responsible for various educational institutions to establish clear and regular procedures for the periodic testing of drivers to ensure that they do not use any substances that could impact their ability to drive and endanger the lives of passengers.
