The number of deaths among Egyptian pilgrims went up to 16, said Major General Shakir al-Kayal, Assistant Interior Minister for the Administrative Affairs Sector and Chief of the Hajj mission.
Kayal added that Mohamed Al-Habashy, 66, from Monufia governorate, died after suffering from a sharp decline in blood flow inside his room in Makkah.
"Mission officials contacted his family in Egypt to see whether he would be buried in Saudi Arabia or sent back to Egypt," he said.
