Davos forum could shift Middle East meetings from Egypt: source

Executive sources at the World Economic Forum have revealed that the forum’s board is considering a Qatari offer to host the forum’s Middle East meetings, which are slated for May, in Doha instead of Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the forum’s administrators were “disappointed” with the preparatory meeting held in Cairo last November when the Egyptian government officials who were scheduled to attend failed to show up.

The sources said the forum’s organizers were particularly disappointed with the housing, investment and planning ministers who merely delegated representatives.

According to the sources, the Egyptian officials who were present were not fully aware of the forum’s agenda. Only Transport Minister Saad el Geyoushi attended the meeting and introduced his ministry’s projects, seeking financing or promotion.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi did not attend this year's forum in Davos, Switzerland, which ended on Saturday.
