Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim has issued Decree No. 2473 of 2013, granting the Egyptian nationality to Shahnaz Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the daughter of the late Shah of Iran, in accordance with Article III of the law No. 154 of 2004 amending certain provisions relating to citizenship.
Shahnaz Pahlavi was born in Iran on 27 October 1940 to Fauzia, daughter of King Fuad I and sister of King Farouk I who married Mohamed Reza Pahlavi in 1939, the Crown Prince of Iran at the time.
Her wedding was first held in Cairo and then in Tehran. Two years later, her husband became Shah after his father’s abdication. They were divorced in 1945 in Cairo, and in 1948 in Iran. The divorce triggered a crisis between Egypt and Iran when her brother insisted that she should not return to Iran.
