Egypt’s Dar al-Iftaa on Sunday issued a statement stressing that medication can only be prescribed by qualified physicians, who are fully equipped to diagnose any condition and provide advice.
The statement addresses medication and treatment being suggested online by non-specialists to combat symptoms of the coronavirus.
Dar al-Iftaa explained that physicians are also able to better understand the needs of one patient, as treatment can differ between individuals even if symptoms are similar due to a variety of factors.
The institute added that non-specialists prescribing drugs to others is a sign of dangerous ignorance, forbidden in Islam.
