A dangerous convict, who was re-arrested a few days ago, was found hanging in his cell in Tora Prison on Saturday.
Rafaat Abdel Shakour, known as Khannoufa, had lived in Masr al-Qadeema district in Cairo and he escaped from a prison in Wadi al-Natrun, where he was serving a 10-year sentence. Convicted for theft and assault, he was also was a suspect in 12 different cases.
Since escaping prison, Khannoufa blocked Salah Salem Road several times and attempted to assault the head of Masr al-Qadeema’s district.
According to investigations, Khannoufa made a rope from his prison clothes, which he used to hang himself.
Mohamed Naguib, assistant interior minister for prisons, notified the Public Prosecution of the incident.
A medical examiner was asked to confirm the cause of death.
Meanwhile, Cairo security authorities dispatched additional forces to the Masr al-Qadeema police station in case Khannoufa’s family tries to take vengeance by attacking the station.
