Sources at the Tourism Ministry said that tourist development plans for Egypt’s North Coast would not include the Dabaa area, the proposed site for Egypt’s first nuclear reactor.
The state-run Nuclear Safety Authority reportedly asked the ministry to exclude the site from a list of areas set aside for development projects, which will be presented to potential investors next October.
The site was included in the ministry’s initial development plan–which has already been completed–but will be ruled out in subsequent phases aimed at determining locations for tourist development activities.
The sources went on to explain that investors would be offered a number of North Coast development projects, from Sidi Abdel Rahman to Marsa Matrouh–20km from Dabaa–and from Ras el-Hekma to Alam el-Roum.
