Customs Authority buys scanners with US$65 million grant

After a four-year hiatus, the Customs Authority has announced that Rapiscan, L-3 and Morpho Egypt have won the fourth stage of a tender that was put forward last April, to supply scanners that would help the authorities examine and control incoming shipments and parcels at ports.

Customs Authority President Magdi Abdel Aziz said the tender was financed by a US grant of US$65 million, of which only $50 million have been used.

He said the agreements with the three companies include specialized training in the United States with regard to the new equipment and anti-smuggling techniques.

He also said that the contracts made sure that all equipment and accessories are made in the United States, shipped, installed, examined and maintained by the suppliers, and carry a four-year guarantee.
