The Ministry of Culture will continue opening doors of its affiliated national and arts museums for free to the public for several days, marking the International Museum Day, which is celebrated on May 18th each year.
Minister of Culture Nevine al-Kelany Saturday said that opening the museums for free falls within the framework of the Culture Ministry’s belief in the key role of museums in raising cultural awareness.
She added that the move aims to highlight the country’s artistic and historic treasures, foster communication among categories of society alongside shedding light on contributions of the nation’s notable figures.
Established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, the International Museum Day is celebrated annually on May 18th and serves as a global platform to promote the role of museums in cultural exchange and development.
This year’s theme, “Museums for Education and Research,” aims to underscore the significance of museums as dynamic educational institutions fostering learning, discovery, and cultural understanding.
