A cruise ship carrying 34 tourists ran aground in the Nile River in front of the village of Abu Aziz, in Mattai Center, northern Minya, Upper Egypt, on Sunday, while coming from Luxor on its way to Beni Suef Governorate.
No passengers were harmed due to the incident.
A civil protection team intervened to deal with the situation, while the Governor of Minya, Osama al-Qadi, assigned the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to send a tugboat from the village of Bani Hassan to tow the ship.
Minya Security Director Mohamed Mostafa Dhabash, received a notification from police emergency operations stating that a tourist ship had been stranded.
The head of the Mattai Center, Hamid Fakhry, the director of the governorate’s tourism department, Tharwat al-Azhari, ambulances and civil protection forces rushed to follow up on the situation and check on the passengers.
The Governor of Minya formed an operations room to follow up on the situation firsthand, through the head of the Mattai Center, the Director of Tourism, and the Director of Irrigation.
