Court upholds rulings in 2010 Christmas shootings

A criminal court on Monday upheld rulings issued by a state security court last February in the case of the killing of six Copts and a Muslim security guard during Coptic Christmas celebrations on January 2010 in a church shooting in southern Egypt.

Qena Criminal Court upheld the acquittal of two of the three suspects, Qorashy Abouel Haggag and Hendawy Sayyed Hassan, government news service MENA reported.

On 20 February 2011, the State Security Court in Qena ordered the execution of Hamam al-Kammouni, and acquitted Haggag and Hassan.

Kammouni was executed on 10 October 2011 and the trial reconvened in December at the request of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces.

Six Copts and a Muslim guard were killed and eight more injured in the attack.
