In April, the Court of First Instance ordered Qandil be imprisoned for abstaining from carrying out a court ruling which stated the ownership of the company should be returned back to the state. In July, the Dokki Misdemeanor Court of Appeals upheld the ruling.
Several workers of the company filed a lawsuit saying that Qandil refrained from carrying out the Administrative Court ruling which nullified privatization of the company without reasons. The ruling also ordered the government to breach the contract stricken with the Saudi businessman Abdullah al-Kahly and return of the company back to the state.
Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the ruling is enforceable, as Qandil made the mistake while being in office. He did not file documents that referred he carried out or was going to implement the ruling.
