Cairo Appeals Court has set 10 December as the beginning of the trial of former Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Mahdy Akef for charges of “insulting the judicial authorities.”
Judge Tharwat Hammad referred Akef to trial following complaints by several judges that he had insulted the judiciary in a previous interview he had made with Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida.
In the beginning of interrogations, Akef had denied making the interview in the first place, claiming that he was speaking to a number of mass information school students before discovering that his speech was published by the paper, which, he says, did not ask for his permission for publication.
Regardless, Akef stresses that he holds respect for the judiciary.
