Court sentences TV host Riham Saeed to prison over defaming sexually harassed victim

A Giza Misdemeanor Court on Monday sentenced TV Presenter Riham Saeed to six months in prison and fined her LE10,000 for defaming a woman who claimed she was sexually harassed at a shopping mall.

The court also gave Saeed a one-year sentence and a bail of LE15,000 for attacking the woman’s personal freedom.

Last year, Saeed ignited public fury after she criticized the victim of alleged sexual harassment. The victim was in a security video which showed her being slapped on the face by a young man whom she accused of harassing her on her way out of a Cairo mall.

Saeed had invited the victim to the show so that she could tell her story, but the victim later accused the presenter of taking personal photos from her cell phone without her permission and airing them on screen.

After showing pictures of the victim on-air, Saeed suggested that the clothing she was wearing was not proper, which led to her account of the harassment incident being questionable.
