Court releases 16 suspects in ‘Zeitoun’ terrorist cell case

The Supreme State Security Court on Monday ordered the release of 16 out of 25 people detained pending investigation in the “Zeitoun” terrorist cell case.

The stated reason for the release is that the maximum period for detention for those under investigation has passed.

The release of the remaining detainees will be decided on 20 June.

The Egyptian authorities arrested several alleged members of the cell, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, in July 2009 on charges of killing a Coptic jeweller and three others in the Zeitoun district in Cairo.
