Court postpones review of case against local councils

The Administrative Court on Tuesday postponed the review of a case calling for the dissolution of all local councils across Egypt to 28 June.

The case, filed by lawyer Mokhtar Hany, claims that 98 percent of Egypt's estimated 1750 local councils are still controlled by members of the dissolved National Democratic Party.

He added that they suffer from administrative corruption and do not transparently represent the demands of the people, but rather those of the dissolved party.

Several revolutionary youth groups have called for the dissolution of local councils, which they also say are monopolized by corrupt figures from the former regime.
