Court permits defense by foreign lawyers in Tamim murder

The Supreme Administrative Court agreed yesterday to a decision by Minister of Justice Mamdouh Mar’ee allowing non-Egyptian lawyers to defend suspects in the murder case of singer Suzanne Tamim.

The high-profile case saw the imprisonment and death sentence of Hisham Talaat Mustafa, Egyptian real estate tycoon and member of the ruling National Democratic Party’s Policies Secretariat, in May 2009. The verdict is currently being appealed.

The Administrative Court decision was issued by State Council head Mohamed el-Husseini and members Magdi el-Agaty, Ahmed el-Shazli and Magdi el-Agroudi.
