Court lowers sentence for Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide to 10-year-imprisonment

The Court of Cassation on Sunday lowered the 12-year sentence for Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Supreme Guide Mohammed Badea down to 10 years.

The Beni Suef Criminal Court sentenced Badea and three other MB members to 12 years in prison, and 35 members to 15 years in September 2017. Badea was charged for participating in burning the Baba Police Station and School of Nuns in Beni Suef in 2013.

The burning took place in the wake of the government’s dispersal of the MB sit-in of Rabaa al-Adawiya on August 14 2013.

In addition to the three defendants and the MB supreme guide, 93 other defendants are still facing trial in the same case. Their charges include joining an unlawful group, seizing arms, causing sabotage to public property, and burning the Baba Police Station and School of Nuns.

Out of the 93 defendants, 25 are in jail while the rest are fugitives.
