Court to issue sentence in Salafi man’s murder on Thursday

The Alexandria Criminal Court headed by Judge Mostapha Terana will issue its verdict on Thursday in the case of the murder of Sayed Bilal, a young Salafi man who was tortured to death at the hands of State Security Investigations Services (SSIS) officers during the investigation into the 2010 New Year's Eve Two Saints Church bombings.

The public prosecutor in West Alexandria had referred five SSIS officers to the criminal court on charges of murder, torture and sexual violation of five detainees during investigations into the incident.

Four of the defendants are currently fugitives.

Over 10 sessions, the court panel listened to the testimonies of witnesses, and the prosecution asserted that the defendants participated in Bilal’s killing and in the torture of a number of other detainees.
