Mansoura Criminal Court sentenced on Monday a Muslim Brotherhood member to death and other 47 members, including the group’s spokesperson in Daqahliya, to life over charges of violence and rioting in the province in the wake of the June 30 uprising.
The court also accused them of murdering and attempted murder.
Additionally, the court handed several prison sentences of three, five, seven, 10 and 15 years to 21 suspects over involvement in violence and forming terrorist cells. Four others were cleared.
The court reviewed 12 cases including 72 Brotherhood suspects, including 25 suspects were held at Mansoura public prison.
Strict security measures were taken around the court. Families of the suspects were banned to attend the trial session. Only the lawyers and journalists were allowed access.
None of the suspects were brought to the courtroom. Security sources said they were not transferred for fear of sparking riots.
