Court to explain death sentence turnaround in celeb murder case

The Court of Cassation on Saturday is expected to announce its rational for rescinding death sentences passed on businessman Hisham Talaat Mostafa and former police officer Mohsen el-Sokkary.

The two men were sentenced to death earlier this year by a lesser court for the 2008 murder of Lebanese pop singer Suzanne Tamim in Dubai.

The court will order retrials for both defendants by another criminal court.

According to sources close to the case, the verdict was rescinded due to flaws in the investigation and mistakes made in the application of the law.
