Coptic Church invited to play role in Nile Basin negotiations

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday welcomed a possible role for the Coptic Church in the crisis over the redistribution of Nile water quotas.

"There is a very strong relationship between the Egyptian and Ethiopian churches,” said Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mona Omar. “And Coptic Pope Shenouda III is generally respected by all Christians in the world, and in Africa in particular.”
