Coptic Christians continue sit-in, demand building Marinab church

Coptic Christians in Aswan on Tuesday continued their open-ended sit-in before the municipality's headquarters, demanding the building of a church in the Marinab village near the southern city of Edfu.

Clashes between Muslims and Christians erupted when the Christians tried to turn a guesthouse into a church by building an extra floor and a dome without license.

The cabinet’s fact-finding committee said in its report that there was no church in that village, and Muslim residents called on Coptic Pope Shenouda III to come to the village and see for himself.

Meanwhile, human rights organizations said they would join the sit-in in solidarity with Copts.
