Controversial Egyptian film ‘al-Molhed’ (The Atheist) delayed once more

Producer Ahmed al-Sobky decided to postpone the screening of the movie “al-Molhed” (The Atheist), after it was scheduled to be shown on Wednesday, August 14, despite its approval from the Censorship Authority for Artistic Works, with an age classification of +16, due to its controversial topics.

Sobky confirmed in statements to Al Masry Al Youm that: “We decided to postpone the screening of the movie for two weeks. I obtained licenses to screen it from the censorship authority, but it was fate and destiny that I would face a crisis in the editing, God’s will and what He wills shall happen.”

The movie was scheduled to be released on August 14, after three years of postponement.

It w written by journalist Ibrahim Eissa, directed by Mando al-Adl, and stars Ahmed Hatem, Mahmoud Hemeida, Hussein Fahmy, Sherine Reda, Sabreen, Tara Emad, and Naglaa Badr, with a soundtrack by Rageh Daoud.

Sabky has previously confirmed that the film does not contain anything that contradicts Islam, adding that Al-Azhar reviewed the film.

He stressed that writer Eissa would not do anything that contradicts Islamic law, assuring that the film is not against religion and that censorship will not allow the showing of things that contradict Islam.
