The presidential elections in Egypt went smoothly, and were transparent and conducted within the legal framework set by the Egyptian government, said the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa's delegation dispatched to monitor the presidential elections in a press conference on Friday morning.
The delegation held the press conference to announce the preliminary report on the elections.
The elections sent a positive message to the African Union, said a delegation member.
The participation of the delegation in monitoring the Egyptian elections comes from the premise that Egypt is an important country for the COMESA, the delegation member added.
"There have been no significant events as the mission did not record complaints in the places where it visited," he mentioned.
"The number of voters declined in the second and third days of vote, compared to the first day," the delegation said.
The presence of security personnel inside polling stations should be only up to the required limit so as not to intimidate voters, according to the delegation's report.
The report pointed out to the need to announce prior to starting the elections that the days of election would be official holidays.
