A woman was killed and six others injured on Tuesday in a collision on the ring road in Maadi, in front of the Economic Court.
The collision took place between a sand loaded truck and a car, causing six other vehicles to crash.
The vital ring road was quickly backed up with massive traffic jams until security forces eventually helped remove the wreckage and opened the road.
A report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in May said that Egypt has the highest rates of road injuries and deaths among countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The report indicates that the number of deaths caused by collisions has reached 7,115 a year, with the rate of 8.8 cases per each 100,000 residents, which is approximately 19.5 deceased per day.
The number of injuries resulting from collisions is 27,479 a year, with the rate of approximately 75.3 injured per day, which means that about every hour someone dies and three people are injured due to road collisions.
