Clocks tick back – Egypt switches to winter time

Winter time will commence in Egypt on Thursday, in accordance with Law #24 of 2023 concerning the regulation of Daylight Saving Time.

Daylight Saving Time will end on Thursday, resulting in clocks being set back by one hour. This will effectively extend the day’s duration.

As a result, the clock will be adjusted from 12:00 AM on Friday to 11:00 PM on Thursday.

Winter time will be in effect for six months, ending on Thursday, April 2025 marking the beginning of daylight saving time once again.

Benefits

Switching to winter time offers several benefits.

These include significant energy savings, particularly in lighting, as well as reduced strain on the power grid due to better alignment of peak electricity usage with sleep hours.

Moreover, winter time offers more opportunities for outdoor activities and social gatherings with increased daylight hours after work.

This time change also harmonizes with our natural body rhythms, as people typically feel more inclined to follow an earlier sleep-wake cycle during the colder months.
