Police forces in Beni Suef governorate surrounded the Ihnasia Police Station and court following clashes inside the court between residents, lawyers of suspects accused of stealing diesel oil and gasoline, and the forces in charge of securing the court.
The clashes erupted after the judge had ordered that the three suspects be imprisoned for 15 days pending investigations.
Lawyers and residents attempted to enter the judge’s chambers; however, they were prevented by a policeman. Police forces then fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, which led to the injury of five lawyers. They were transferred to Ihnasia Central Hospital.
Mohsen Abu Aql, head of the Lawyers Syndicate in Beni Suef, visited the court with a group of lawyers in an attempt to end the standoff between police forces and the lawyers. He also inquired about the health of the hospitalized lawyers.
