Clashes erupted on Saturday between students affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood and security troops around Azhar University’s faculties of education and commerce.
Students hurled stones at police, who in turn responded by firing teargas canisters to disperse protesters.
Heavy security measures were taken at the main gates of the university located in Nasr City district to confront violence by the Brotherhood students.
Final exams of the second semester were resumed on Saturday at the university, after being halted for one week due to the presidential elections.
