More than 35 citizens were injured in Mansoura Stadium as Egyptians amassed to receive the military's yearly distribution of Ramadan gifts.
More than 10,000 people waited inside the stadium from 6 am for military trucks, which did not arrive until 11am. The crowd then fought over the gifts, which included various foodstuffs.
The officers suspended the distribution effort for an hour while order was restored.
Military sources said the army distributed more than 40,000 cartons of gifts among the poor households of Mansoura over the last two weeks.
