Unknown gunmen kidnapped a local man at gunpoint in North Sinai on Monday, taking him to an unknown destination.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, eyewitnesses said the kidnapping could be attributed to the victim’s cooperation with security services.
North Sinai has been a stage for fatal attacks against Egyptian security forces and counter-raids by security since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
At least 700 soldiers have been killed in the area and most of the attacks against troops have been claimed by an Islamic State affiliate, the Sinai Province.
Egypt’s army and police occasionally announce the extermination of what they call “extremist” and “terrorist” elements.
