Citing violations, Muslim Brotherhood questions point of elections

The Muslim Brotherhood internal opposition front said the group’s candidates still had a chance to withdraw from the parliamentary elections, calling on both winning and losing candidates to step down in light of widespread electoral violations.

“The ruling party will have no opposition in parliament,” said front member Mokhtar Nouh. He called on the group to devise a new strategy more in line with the interests of ordinary Egyptians.

“The High Election Commission lost control, and there was no supervision by the judiciary,” said internal opposition front member Ibrahim al-Zafarany. “The group should not have participated in the first place.”
