Church to honor Coptic Egyptians killed by IS in Libya receives permits

The Coptic Orthodox Church has obtained the required paperwork for the establishment of a church named after the Coptic Egyptians who were killed by the Islamic State in Libya in mid-February, announced church sources in Minya on Tuesday.

Following the incident, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had announced that a church would be established to honor the 21 Coptic Egyptians beheaded in Libya.

Samalout City Mayor Gamal Mubarak said the Agriculture Ministry issued the required permits needed to establish the church in al-Owr Village.

The church will cost LE10 million, a source in the Samalout Diocese told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Security forces were deployed at the site of the project to prevent possible altercations between Muslim and Christian residents.
