Chill weather grips Egypt, falling as low as -2C in St. Catherine

A member of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority’s Media Center, Manar Ghanem, said that the country will be exposed to a low pressure system starting on Sunday.

During a phone-in with the CBC satellite channel, Ghanem anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall, with possible thunderstorms, on Sunday and Monday on the northern coasts, with the potential for lighter rainfall in the interior governorates and Greater Cairo.

Temperatures will drop, she added, especially during the early morning and late night periods, in addition to the presence of active winds that further increase the chillness.

Lowest temperature in Egypt

Ghanem indicated that central Sinai and St. Catherine will record the lowest temperature in Egypt, reaching two below zero at night.

The governorates of northern Upper Egypt come in second place, she added, as the temperature at night will be between five and six degrees Celsius.

The new cities in Greater Cairo will record less than 10C.

Ghanem added that weather conditions will stabilize starting on Tuesday until the end of the week.
