Nothing is more fun for young children than engaging in activities that exercise both their minds and their hands. Creating homemade salt dough stretches children’s creativity and makes them proud that they have produced something, albeit simple, on their own.
Ingredients and supplies:
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup of water
1 cup of salt
A rolling pin
A cookie cutter
A plastic bowl
Directions:
1. Mix the salt and flour in a plastic bowl.
2. Gradually pour 1/2 cup of water in. Stir until the mixture becomes firm.
3. Spread the dough on a flat surface and knead it for ten minutes. Sprinkle on a few drops of water.
4. Once the dough is ready, cut it into small pieces and roll it into 1/3cm-thick slabs using a rolling pin. Create different shapes out of your dough with a cookie cutter.
5. Leave your designed shapes to dry for two days on wax paper or a similar surface.
6. If you want to hang the salt dough as a room decoration, punch some holes in it with a fork before drying it. Flip the shape over occasionally to dry it faster. Re-pierce the hole every now and then during the drying process.
