Fouad Riyad, head of the 30 June fact-finding committee, said the group had not received a response from the presidency yet on its request to extend work after the 21 September deadline.
Former Interim President Adli Mansour ordered the committee to investigate violence that followed the ouster of toppled president Mohamed Morsy.
Riyad said that the committee will not be able to finish by the deadline.
In remarks to reporters on Monday, Riyad said that requesting an extension does not offend the committee, “because it made great strides and accomplished around 80 percent of its work.” However, “receiving information from the prosecution prompted revisiting some issues,” he said, indicating to waiting for information from the Muslim Brotherhood.
Riyad expressed embarrassment for issuing the report without including testimonies of the Muslim Brotherhood “which urged using testimonies mentioned in the Human Rights Watch (HRW) report.”
He also indicated to calling on representatives and chiefs of HRW and Amnesty International to review the documents the committee has.
"Information by the Interior Ministry and prosecution was not different from that reached by the committee through citizens," he said. "In case any difference was found, it would be mentioned in the final report."
Riyad also added that the number of victims of the Rabaa al-Adaweya dispersal is much less than one thousand.
