Prosecutors have charged ceramics tycoon Mohamed Abul Enein of plotting and inciting the 2 February assault on demonstrators in Tahrir Square dubbed “The Battle of the Camel.” He must either pay bail of LE100,000 or face detention for 15 days pending investigation.
Former Trade Unions Federation President Hussein Megawer and former Member of Parliament Ihab al-Omda were also accused of the same charge, in addition to 15 former MPs and officials of the state-owned Radio and Television Union.
Megawer received orders from high-ranking officials in the former ruling National Democratic Party to mobilize and pay workers and supporters of the former regime to attack the demonstrators, reported the fact-finding committee that was tasked with investigating the incident. Megawer has denied the allegations.
Al-Omda was charged with providing Molotov cocktails and stones for the attackers to use.
