
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has launched the website for the digital Haweya app platform.
The app is the first national project of its kind, enabling citizens to verify and use their digital identity in various banking and government transactions in Egypt.
The launch of the Haweya platform website comes as part of the state’s plan to transition to a cashless economy based on secure electronic services via mobile.
This is in line with Egypt’s drive toward full digital transformation as part of the state’s Vision 2030.
The CBE has not yet announced an official date for the launch of the Haweya platform app.
What is the Haweya App?
The Haweya platform is a national digital identity platform that helps citizens verify their identity electronically and use it in all their banking and government transactions without the need for paper documents or physical attendance at bank branches.
How does it work?
Users wishing to register through the app platform creates his/her digital identity using electronic Know Your Customer technology to verify the identity of the account holder wishing to register through Haweya App platform.
Activating an account via the Haweya app:
Once an account is activated on the app platform, users can do the following from home:
- Open bank accounts electronically
- Verify their data and official documents
- Conduct government and service transactions online
- Deal with various service providers
