Egypt's annual urban consumer inflation and core inflation both slowed in January, a boost for government efforts to balance economic growth and price stability as the country seeks to recover from four years of political instability.
As a major importer of oil, Egypt is benefiting from a more than 50 percent slump in global oil prices since June.
Urban consumer inflation fell to 9.7 percent in January from 10.1 the previous month, official statistics agency CAPMAS said on Tuesday.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like fruit and vegetables, declined to 7.06 percent in January from 7.69 percent the previous month, the central bank said later.
The central bank surprised markets last month with a 50 basis point cut to its benchmark interest rates, citing an easing inflation outlook.
Inflation spiked in Egypt after the government slashed subsidies in July, lifting fuel prices by up to 78 percent.
