Abdel Sattar Fathy, head of the Censorship Authority, said that not a single scene from local or foreign films would be cut as of April, adding that the role of the censorship would only be to classify films according to the suitable age for their viewing.
“Only pornographic movies and films that promote atheism will be banned,” he told Mona Salman of the Dream 2 satellite channel on Sunday evening.
“Television series will be censored to make sure they do not contain foul language,” he said. “This is a must because TV is in every home.”
The Censorship Authority was thrown into controversy last year when it decided to ban the movie “Halawet Rouh”, which many found sexually provocative. The decision was later overturned and instead, scenes were removed from the movie.
The Cabinet decided in response to restructure the Censorship Authority, adding in a statement that “the panel will be comprised of representatives of artistic associations and syndicates, as well as specialists, in order to introduce a developed ideology for the authority.”
