More than 1,300 French dinners will be served at restaurants and embassies across the five continents for a special event on Thursday, 19 March. Under the patrogen of France's foreign ministry and Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse, "Gout de France / Good France" is intended as a celebration of French cuisine, which in 2010 was designated part of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by the UN's cultural organisation, UNESCO.

The participants were selected by a committee of international chefs led by Ducasse, who reviewed proposals submitted by restaurants from all over the world. The carefully prepared meals will highlight French cuisine’s capacity for innovation and its core values: sharing and enjoying high-quality food while also respecting the principles of environmentally sustainable cuisine.

The international chefs will offer a full French-style menu – a traditional apéritif (pre-dinner drink), a cold starter, a hot starter, fish or shellfish, meat or poultry, a French cheese or cheeseboard, a chocolate dessert, and a selection of French wines or digestifs – while remaining free to highlight their own country's culinary traditions and culture.

To mark the occasion, French director Serge Moati has released a series of videos that pay tribute to some of France’s greatest chefs.
