The Cairo Urgent Matters Appeals Court on Sunday postponed to May 23 its verdict in a lawsuit demanding the government brand Palestinian militant faction Hamas a terrorist organization.
The lawsuit brought by lawyer Ashraf Saeed against the presidency and the Cabinet accuses Hamas of involvement in deadly attacks against police and army forces since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi.
The court branded Hamas a terrorist group in February before the State Litigation Authority appealed the verdict.
Hamas, widely seen as a Muslim Brotherhood offshoot, has repeatedly rebuffed Egypt’s accusations of involvement in terrorist operations. A number of group members are standing trial in absentia over terrorism and espionage charges that also involve Morsi and other Brotherhood leaders.
